Zinkplaat's third album, “Musiek Uit Die Geraas” sees the Afrikaans rockers coming of age during a South African musical explosion. Having been around since the pre-MK days, the boys have paid their dues on countless national tours since 2003 as well as a stint in London. Through independently releasing two albums, producing their own music videos, bootlegging their own wine, and selling their own merchandise, the band have gained a wide following.
“Musiek Uit Die Geraas” chronicles the tumultuous time a young Afrikaans person experiences in South Africa today. The band, with legendary producer, Jürgen von Wechmar, slaved away in Sunset Studios during the winter of '07, emerging with a 10-song Afrikaans rock explosion. Like a farm boy moving to the city, the album sounds like a band steeped in rural roots, slamming face first into city life and the perils of modern living.
The first single, “Die Spons”, came in on nr. 3 on the MK Top 10, while also reaching the top spot on various radio stations. It's predecessor, “Gedigte vir Gesigte”, reached the nr. 2 spot, while also being a top seller on Rhythm Records Online shop.
Recently the album was nominated for a Huisgenoot Tempo Award for most popular Rock Album of the year.
The third single, “Hondeklipbaai” is a raucus number, with an equally raucus music video appearing soon on national television.
Zinkplaat have taken “Musiek Uit Die Geraas” on five national tours, including Die MK Derde Avontoer, Die Ubuntoer II: Rock Against Racism, and a CD launch tour.
Lauded by critics, this album is the sound of pre-conceived notions being broken.
