Foto na Dans`s first full length album INTERVENSIE offers exactly what the name implies: an intervention providing new direction to SA Progressive Rock. Don’t expect instant gratification, nor to be spoonfed with predictable riffs.
With INTERVENSIE Foto na Dans establish their own sound. Their classical training shows in the way that electronic elements are used to open up this Rock album to symphonic dimensions.
Take time to listen carefully – this is a distinctively characteristic album that will take all the time you can afford to reveal itself. You will be rewarded with the discovery of an inbetween–world. (Think “TOMMY”). It starts off in classical overture mode, and then kicks into full momentum exactly 1 minute and 28 seconds into track 2 – “Oorywerige Gelowige”. From this point and onwards all prejudices, preconceived perceptions and conventions are discarded with innovative chord progressions that explode into relentless bursts of progressive Rock.
Foto na Dans` debut EP that was released in January 2007 was mostly experimental. With INTERVENSIE they applied a much more structured approach in terms of the writing of lyrics and music. Short of being described as a concept album, the representation of the mindset of a new SA youth does hold the album together – albeit the incohesiveness of a plethora of unrelated lateral thoughts providing the very concept. (Think “TOMMY” again. Or “Jy sal nie verstaan nie” from track 2 “Oorywerige gelowige”)
The lyrics on INTERVENSIE were written by Le Roi and Neil. Their words often serve as a catalyst for personal interpretation rather than the conveyance of a definite message. They mostly write about things that upset them. “The things that you never want to talk about because it`s too personal, although you know that many people around you have also had the same relative experiences.”
INTERVENSIE was recorded at B Sharp Studios in Boksburg. The album was produced by Foto na Dans and JP de Stefani and was mixed and mastered by Rogan Kelsey at Lapdust Studios.
Foto na Dans has just returned from Oppikoppi where they performed some of the new tracks to an audience of thousands of festival goers. If the raving crowd response is anything to go by, Foto na Dans is sure to be destined for great success in the near future.
