Starting out in Cape Town with the band 'Even' in the late nineties,
playing a rhythmic eclectic mix of funk, folk and rock, Danie moved from
playing lead guitar to being the self-indulgent bassist to guitar and
lead vocals as the line-up changed.
In the last line-up the sound moved
to a more folk-pop orientated sound, more reminiscent of his own
material, as previously the lead singer wrote the songs. In 2000 he
started performing solo, settling to an acoustic style and dabbling in
Afrikaans songs as well.
In 2004 he released 'Mental Pictures', the
forerunner EP to the current album, which spawned the song 'Harde Hout'
and reached no. 19 on the SAMP3.com charts. In 2006 he teamed up with the
guys at Street Level Studios and recorded an additional 9 songs in record time to
come up with 'Painting With Light', a 14 track album, featuring 3
Afrikaans songs, and 11 English songs.
He plays all the instruments
except drums, electric guitar, backing vocals and bass on selected
tracks, which were filled in by Chris Tait. Danie has not been
performing for the last 2 years, but focuses on songwriting and
distributing his music digitally and selling the odd CD.
