Bio
Wysdiman
is a 4-piece Afrikaans Rock band from Johannesburg who has been burning
up stages in and around Gauteng and Pretoria since 2005. After 3 previous
releases consisting of an EP and singles, the first full length album
was released at the end of August 2010.
In 2007 the
EP Dagman Nagman was released and various tracks were played on RSG
as well as The Barney Simon Show in his Radio 2000 days.
2008 saw
Wysdiman taking on the live circuit and ending the year with 50
gigs behind them. Stages were shared with, amongst others, Albert Frost,
Riku Latti, Die Kaalkop Waarheid, Liesl Graham, NuL and Thys Nywerheid.
Other highlights included a listing in Postbox 2008 (an annual arts
and culture publication), as well as a performance at the launch party.
Wysdiman also had the privilege to perform alongside Lucky Fonz
III from the Netherlands and The Mojomatics from Italy.
The single Bly By My was playlisted on UJFM during December 2008
and also made it onto the UJFM Afrikaans Top 10.
Wysdiman’s
involvement with the Moonprint Concerts for the Earth Organisation led
to performances at the Pretoria Show and Aardklop in 2009. The opportunity
also came along to be one of the first Afrikaans Rock bands to play
a gig in Soweto. This memorial moment took place in front of an enthusiastic
crowd at the Alter Route Soweto Festival.
Later on in
2009 the unique single Taximan
was released. Taximan became famous as the set closing song for
Wysdiman. Although the song is expressing the emotion our fellow
road users awaken in us, a message of co-operation is also carried across;
co-operation where we all obey the same set of road rules. Also on the
single disc was an acoustic afterthought of the song as well as an industrial
remix by members of NuL. The “rock” version, which became famous
at gigs, was also playlisted on campus stations Matie FM and PUK FM.
Channel24.co.za says “It's an addictively cinematic industrial heavy
rock hued preview off their debut album”.
2010 sees the
launch of the album 2000 EN NAG. It consists of 11 tracks which haven’t
previously been recorded and by which crowds have gotten to know the
sound of Wysdiman by over the years.
With BruceBleed
as the energetic frontman, PoisonPiet’s unique guitar
sounds, AB Viljoen’s
busy bass and Earl Devereux-Quicke’s thumping
drums; Wysdiman
does rock ‘n roll in Afrikaans like it’s never been heard before.
“To say that this band is not afraid
to speak their minds would be an absolute lie; instead frontman Bruce
Bleed screams it out for the world to hear with no regard whatsoever
to critics and skeptics. Their mother tongue grunged-up rock social
commentary blended with crazy and energetic live performances
– borderline mass hysteria - provides for more than a good song or
two, but an explosive experience into the world that is Wysdiman."
