Uhlsport, one of the market leaders in the making of gloves for goalkeepers, designed a special glove for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. The black glove with a yellow palm will be worn by all Uhlsport sponsored goalkeepers during the Soccer World Cup. These include players Michel Vorm (FC Utrecht/Netherlands); Ite Khune (Kasier Chiefs/ SA) and Pepe Reina (Liverpool/Spain.) These special gloves will also be for sale and proceeds will go to SOS Childrens Homes, SA.
Maarten Arts (ex-keeperstrainer for FC Utrecht) is the sponsor manager of the project. He also has a special interest in music. The Uhlsport – SOS Childrens Homes project inspired him to compose the song “Looking for the smile.” Maarten presented the song toHans van Breukelen, an ambassadorof the project and also to well known producer Pete Souer, who felt enthusiastic about the song.
They decided that to record “Looking for the Smile” and donate the proceeds of this initiative to SOS Childrens Homes, SA.
Maarten wanted a South African artist to partake in the recording of the song and found Chris Chameleon via Google. He was immediately impressed with Chris’s music, his 4-octave voice range and various impressive awards. Chris liked the song and the story behind it and offered to be part of the project at no cost.
The song was recorded at Bolland Studios in Blaricum. Chris rewrote some of the verses to address some of the heavy issues that burden our children eg. Aids, with a feeling of hope and faith in the future.
The female vocals were done by Ingrid Simons and the Jody Kids childrens choir added to the finishing touches of the song.
