Since the launch of Skop, Skiet & Donner - Van Coke Kartel’s third full-length album, a media frenzy has broken loose, with rave reviews appearing on several online music sites and albums flying off the shelves in music retailers countrywide.
Skop, Skiet & Donner follows on Van Coke Kartel’s 2009 SAMA Award-winning release, Waaksaam & Wakker and once again confirms the band as a unique phenomenon on the Afrikaans music landscape. The album was recorded at B-Sharp studios in Boksburg, with Peach van Pletzen (Yesterday’s Pupil) as producer. With Skop, Skiet en Donner, Van Coke Kartel takes an exciting creative leap from their previous work, through the inclusion of electronica and acoustic elements, among others.
The Kartel also joined musical forces with a number of other artists during the recording of Skop, Skiet en Donner. Laudo Liebenberg (aKING), Gerald Clark (Delta Blue), Joseph Clark (Queen Tribute artists) and Nathan Smith (Nathan Smith Project) are just some of the artists who collaborated on the album.

… a magnificent display of the pain, humour and rock solid balls of Van Coke Kartel - Roger Young www.mahala.co.za
Skop, Skiet & Donner is a brave record… It puts garage rock in bright red pants and spits on it. - Sneaker www.speakerbox.co.za
Skop Skiet en Donner is testament to the success of the (many good) sum of its parts combining to create something great. Get it; it is an album you will not tire of easily - Ruth Cooper www.bizcommunity.co.za
a deliberate, sure-footed predator, skulking in self-made shadows and waiting in whispers. If their debut was a surge of insistence and Wakker a wide-eyed watchdog, this is an iceberged alligator of patient intent. Donner has a purpose beneath those steaming, swirling depths – its pose is a vantage point, its mystery a mask. - Thomas Okes www.acoustic-image.co.za
