They also became Group Of The Year and Campus Hit Of The Year in 2009 at the MK awards topping bands such as aKING, Dirty Skirts, eF-eL and City Bowl Mizers. All of these awards were voted for by the public.

In the same month as the launch of Sweef soos 'n vuishou Straatligkinders featured on 7de Laan, a South African TV soap, where over 3 million people watched this episode. In January 2009, 5fm, one of South Africa's biggest commercial radio stations, featured a live recorded set from Straatligkinders in an hour long show on DJ Catherine's 5fm LIVE. 5fm also put Desvalido, a rock meets hip hop meets Afrikaans meets English track, on their High 5 at 5 chart in September 2009. This track changed people's perceptions about language barriers in music. Desvalido features vocals in both Afrikaans and English and breaks away from the lyrics only happening in one language at a time in our country.
Straatligkinders is currently working on a new album to be launched in mid-2010 and will feature a cover of a multi-platinum selling pop hit, Kaptein, by Afrikaans pop artist Kurt Darren. The music video for Kaptein will be the first single from the not yet named full length album.
