Press Release:
Not a day goes by without one or more Lesley Rae Dowling songs being played on most South African radio stations. Since she first appeared on the scene with the hit single "The Spaniard" in 1981, more than 10 albums (including 2 "Best of" albums) have been released by this multi award winning singer /songwriter.
STATE OF GRACE is Lesley’s eleventh album. The musical character of the album can be summed up as earthy, hand made music. No electronic synthesizers or programmed loops. It is one of those albums that draws you deeper into its secrets every time you listen to it. The presentation is strongly feminine.
STATE OF GRACE was produced by Schalk Joubert (Bass) and Jurgen von Wechmar (Recording engineer) at Sunset Recording Studios, Stellenbosch. Apart from Lesley on Piano and vocals, other musicians include Mauritz Lotz (Guitars), Tim Rankin (Drums), Barry van Zyl (Percussion), Lee Tompson (Trumpets), Heather Burgess (Flute), Simon Orange (Hammond Organ) and Melissa van der Spuy. String arrangements were done by Jan-Hendrik Harley.
Awards won by Lesley Rae Dowling include the Sarie award in 1982 for best female singer, and SAMA "Best adult contemporary female album" awards for her albums "Unbounded Waters" in 1993 and "Clear" in 1999.
