Captain Stu are here to bring the vibe. A proudly South African band that have been gigging around the country for the best part of 5 years; playing a tightly executed and energetic blend of afro pop, ska, funk, rock, with an urban twist. Their aim is simple… to get you dancing, forget your worries and to have fun.
At present Captain Stu has 6 members…. Nick (lead vocals), James (guitar/backing vocals), Ryan (bass), Clement (saxophone/keyboard), Jon (saxophone and guitar) and Devon (drums). They are always keen to get to know their fans and other local musicians to jam with. The band formed in 2003 when most of the members were still in school. Originally called Captain Stu and the Llamas they began to gig and soon built up a local following. This led to them releasing their debut album in 2005, entitled ‘The Untold Tales’ and performed to a crowd of 1400 fans at their launch in Cape Town alongside the Rudimentals. Over the next couple of years the band crafted their sound to what it is today, and are now ready to release their second album.
The band spent the majority of 2008 in the studio recording their album however continued to perform around the country. In March 2008 they released their single ‘Value Systems’ alongside a new music video. At Easter they were invited to play Splashy Fen music festival and embarked on a 23 hour road. In July they went on a national tour to Johannesburg and Durban. They finished the year reaching the top 3 of the Road to V competition which saw them supporting Maroon 5 and One Republic at the Coca Cola Dome and being featured on a documentary airing on MTV Bass. After this they went on a 2 week MK tour playing with popular Afrikaans bands such as Foto Na Dans and Straatligkinders.
At the moment Captain Stu are getting their album out as much as possible and want people to enjoy their music as much as they do playing it.
