On the tip of Africa lies a small coastal city called Cape Town, AKA 'The Mother City'. Renowned for its combination of breath-taking beauty and political conflict, this vibrant city continues to produce many of the top acts in South African music.
This amazing album is a compilation of some of the best the Mother City has to offer and features the following artists:
Inadiflo:
They are on top of their game in Cape Town and one of the most booked live acts – performing to over 180 000 people in 2005. Their crossover hip hop/R&B and Kwaito (a local type of dance music) sound is fresh and exciting. The track 'Get on up' made it to number three on the SA music charts. Don't miss this one!
D'Monks:
D'Monks is an artist who has spent many years working on and perfecting his unique craft. He has worked with a variety of groups and producers in an effort to find the right chemistry and blend that determines his material. The track 'Ma Africa' is a classic and features Lungiswa Plaaitjies (from a famous SA music family) on vocals.
Supadan:
What do you get when you mix funk-infested bass and drum lines with laid-back jazzy guitars and vocals, and then roll it around in some hard socio-political hip-hop and truckloads of smarts for flavoring? Don't know? Well then you've obviously never heard of Supadan, SA's newest, youngest and realest superband. The track 'Take a walk with me' made it to number one on the SA music charts.
Black Noise:
The original legendary South African hip hop crew. This is where hip hop began in SA.
In 1982, way back when, five dudes from Cape Town came together. Originally breakdancers and graffiti artists, they became MCs and formed the group Black Noise in 1990 - the golden age of hip-hop culture. Five albums later, and these five dudes from the Flats have become living legends. The track 'Got wot I need' made it to number six on the SA music charts.
Che:
This young 19-year-old up-and-coming superstar has been to the USA and met up with Def Jam and P Diddy . You'll be the first to hear this guys original recordings – they are hot!
Ephraim:
Check out this new artists chilled African cross-over vibe. It's a must for a layed back Sunday afternoon.
Dstar:
AKA Craig Damster. This guy is so busy producing for other artists that he seldom has the chance to do his own stuff. Take a listen to these two great tracks – you won't be disappointed!
