Press Release
Party time! The debut album by Stellenbosch rockers New Holland hit the shelves on 19 September.
Recorded at Sunset Studios, the album, ‘01’, captures the fresh party rock & roll sound that’s been thrilling crowds from day one. With infectious melodies, blasting beats, tearing guitars and bouncing bass riffs, they build the perfect foundation for rip-roaring vocals and an undeniable good time.
This four-piece’s electrifying debut gig at 2007’s Groot Gees Rock Fees in Stilbaai blew the crowd, and that was only the start. Recent highlights was performing at the launch of MK’s new “Bruce Lee” Magazine in August, playing with aKING at a packed Stellenbosch Town Hall in July and headlining on Ubuntoer II: Rock Against Racism, which was featured on MK programmes AMP and Studio1.
New Holland’s album took off with the Northern leg of their CD Launch Tour from 10 – 13 September where they played in front of 12 000 people, and with the release of their first single, "Shine" on radio stations.
They are arguably the best and most exciting rock 'n roll band in South Africa and they are already booked as a headlining act for major festivals like Die MK Derde Avontoer in December and Ramfest in February 2009.
Biography
The band came to be after the break-up of Gerdus and Buckle's previous band, Sondag Sensasie. A week after the split the two joined up with Teejay and Odendaal to form what is now known as New Holland.
This was March of last year. Their debut performance was at the Groot Gees Rock Fees II in Stilbaai, where they wowed the crowd with an explosive sound and addictive hooks. The show was part of a tour known as Die MK Tweede Avontoer, a DPK-initiative. After the very successful tour the band was signed onto DPK management and has since played extensively.
By May 2008 New Holland had entered Sunset Studios to work with legendary engineer, Jurgen von Wechmar. From these sessions their brand new single, 'Shine', was released, with a full album set to be finished by September.
Their first national tour was featured on MK's Top Ten, with the band doing an AMP and Studio 1 while on the Ubuntoer II: Rock Against Racism. They also played at the launch of MK's Magazine 'Bruce Lee'.
The members of New Holland describes their sound as 'music to have a good time to'. With chainsaw guitars riding the rhythm section's rolling thunder, the stage is set for soaring vocals and harmonies. It is feet-stomping rock and roll with pop sensibility to boot.
